Trip Overview

Looking for a rare opportunity to begin the new year unplugged in one of Earth's most majestic settings? They say the photos don't do it justice! Add to that, the beautiful inner journey to discover and release your own full voice!

Named after the famous sister W-Trek in Chile, the M-Trek will take us through some of the most scenic hikes around Patagonia on the Argentine side of the border. We will drop the crowds in favor of wide open spaces, towering peaks, and cascading glacial waters. If you have ever seen the logo for the brand, Patagonia, then you are familiar with the Fitz Roy massif and her impressive skyline, which will be the backdrop of our adventure through the heart of Patagonia. Not pictured on that iconic design label are the glaciers hanging off rocky faces high above, the warm sun on your shoulders, and the deep belly laughter that only a group of women can produce. This trip offers all of this and more.

Our itinerary will have us adventuring through all the brilliant and diverse views that the El Chaltén area has to offer. We will be hiking up to the shimmering waters of Laguna del Diablo, looking for the elusive Huemules deer that the area is named after and the rare and beautiful Torrent ducks, hiking near the babbling waters of the Rio Eléctrico, and enjoying the stunning panoramic views of the surrounding peaks jutting above the clouds.

Although this is a world famous destination for mountaineers wanting to test their mettle, have no fear, we are going to stick to paths that do not require technical skill to navigate. Our itinerary combines short, rewarding hikes with some more challenging scenic adventures. What’s more, we will not be tent camping but rather traveling in style, staying in stunning mountain refugios where we can enjoy the vistas from the comfort of a toasty dwelling, our bellies full on privately catered food.

The rawness of Patagonia's dramatic beauty will be the framework we use to explore the parts of ourselves that are less easily accessed in today’s society. Together we will challenge both our self-constructed and culturally-constructed ideas of what it means to be women. We will explore these concepts through conversation, storytelling, and journaling, using Glennon Doyle’s book, "Untamed", as a road map for our journey.

    Pre-Trip

    Your spiritual journey begins at home. We invite you to read Untamed by Glennon Doyle — a powerful guide to reclaiming your inner truth.

    Two months before departure, we’ll gather on Zoom to meet one another, review travel logistics, and open the circle of intention so that we’re far fro strangers when we meet in El Calafate.

    Day 1: Arrival in El Chaltén

    Fly into El Calafate by 1 PM. After greeting the group, we’ll take a scenic drive to our beautiful lodge in El Chaltén (3.5 hrs). Over a shared welcome dinner, we’ll celebrate the start of this trip of a lifetime — a time to reflect, reset, and honor the year ahead.

    Days 2-3: Foundations of Sisterhood

    Day 2 – We’ll ease into the journey with a gentle hike to Laguna Capri (5.5 mi / 8.85 km). With views of Mount Fitz Roy, we’ll picnic by the lake and begin exploring the book’s themes through shared reflection. This is a space to begin releasing expectations and leaning into connection.

    Day 3 – An unforgettable bucket list travel day: the famed Laguna Torre Hike through grasslands and forests, and along a glacial river ends at a breathtaking lake view at the base of Cerro Torre (11 mi / 17.7 km). As you walk, feel the strength of your voice beginning to rise.

    Day 4: Into Solitude

    Day 4 – Hike to Laguna Rosa (5 mi / 8.1 km). Now, we venture where few travelers go in the Patagonia region - through the lenga forest, across Del Puesto Creek and the Pink Lagoon prairie, and close enough to the imposing Cagliero Este Glacier to contemplate hanging glaciers and moraines.

    Heading north to the remote Refugio de Glaciares near Lago del Desierto, we’ll spend these two days exploring hidden valleys. After lunch, you will return to the lodge.

    Day 5: Into Strength

    Day 5 - Hiking alongside the stunning Río de las Vueltas and Laguna del Milodón. Hiking options include routes of approximately 8 mi / 12 km, offering both challenge and breathtaking reward.

    *Optional river hike (3.5 mi) or up to Laguna Milodon (7.5 mi).

    Day 6: Voices of Courage

    Day 6 – Today’s hike to Puesto Cagliero brings us to a stunning refuge at the base of a glacier—our home for the night and the starting point for tomorrow’s explorations. (4 mi / 6.5 km)

    In this intimate setting beneath the vast ice, we pause together for meaningful conversation, reflection, and the continued discovery of our voices.

    Day 7: Water, Wonder & Wisdom

    Day 7 - From Puesto Cagliero, we set out toward Huemules, hiking via the striking Laguna Azul, whose vivid blue waters reflect the surrounding peaks. The trail winds through rugged Patagonian terrain, offering sweeping views of glaciers, forests, and open valleys before leading us onward to our night in the famed Eco Domes. (5 mi / 8.1 km)

    Day 8: A Grand Finale

    Day 8 – Our final day of hiking takes us on an out-and-back journey to Lago Eléctrico, tracing glacial rivers and wide Patagonian valleys before returning to El Chaltén.

    With expansive views of rugged peaks and open skies, this last trek offers a fitting farewell to the wild beauty that has carried us and a place to hear the fullness of our voices. (13 mi / 21 km)

    Days 9-10: Departure

    Day 9 – After a glorious last morning sunrise waterfall hike (4 mi), we say goodbye to El Chaltén and travel to El Calafate. Unwind at the hotel’s spa before we gather for a last celebratory dinner and sharing.

    This is your moment to honor the transformation — a new voice, a new year, a new you!

    Day 10 - Enjoy a final morning of peace at Imago Hotel before transferring to the airport. Your Honest Heart Journey continues — within you and alongside your new sisters.

We Host Your Journey

We provide space and time for self reflection, as well as thoughtful prompts and various sized group discussions around themes in our trip book. You'll also receive a blank journal in which to process new ideas. Following our trip, we'll gather again online to explore how we're integrating new clarity and holding each other gently accountable to new life patterns that honor our individual voices.

Our Trip Book

Untamed is both an intimate memoir and a galvanizing wake-up call - the story of how one woman learned that a responsible mother is not one who slowly dies for her children, but one who shows them how to fully live. It addresses how each of us can begin to trust ourselves to set boundaries, make peace with our bodies, honor our anger and heartbreak, and unleash our truest, wildest instincts so that we become women who look at ourselves and say: There She Is.

Patagonian food is known for its rich flavors, hearty dishes, and colorful presentation. The food is often made with fresh, locally-sourced ingredients - like lamb and fish in this region - and is influenced by European immigration.

Weather

January is peak of summer in Patagonia, offering warm days, long daylight hours, and ideal conditions for hiking and exploring. Though this is the driest month, still be prepared for potential strong winds and some rain. Temperatures typically range from the low 60s to the low 70s Fahrenheit (15-22°C) during the day, with cooler nights.

Packing Tips

Prioritize clothing that will dry quickly and that can be layered so that you can easily adapt to different weather. Having the right footwear is potentially the most critical piece. We will provide a complete planning guide, including a detailed suggested packing list.

  • Reserve your spot through our website, which links you to our WeTravel registration platform. We require a 50% deposit with full payment due 180 days prior to the departure date. We welcome payments via credit card or debit with a flexible payment schedule.

    Please keep your WeTravel reservation confirmation email to access your individual account information any time through the ‘Manage Your Booking’ button at the bottom. Everything regarding your trip – guest survey, waiver forms, visa/passport uploads, planning guide, etc. – lives here.

  • If a cancellation is made prior to 180 days before the trip date, the entire deposit will be refunded except for a $500 per person service charge.

    Itineraries are subject to change depending on weather, availability of activities, unforeseen circumstances, emergencies, etc. It is highly unlikely that we will cancel a trip, but we do reserve the right to cancel due to weather, natural disasters, emergencies or a lack of sufficient reservations. If we cancel a trip, a full refund of the trip deposit and any final payment will be given.

    Notification of cancellation must be received in writing via email to info@honestheartjourneys.com.

  • HHJ requires that you obtain travel insurance in case of unexpected medical circumstances. We also highly recommend you obtain cancellation insurance.

    We want you to make a decision that meets your needs. If you don’t already have your own insurance source, you can now book insurance directly on WeTravel registration platform.

  • Once your registration is complete and your trip is paid in full, you’ll receive a detailed Planning Guide designed to support your preparation. This includes:

    • A complete day-by-day itinerary

    • A curated packing list tailored to your destination

    • Hotel and lodging information

    • Important travel tips and logistics

    • An introduction to our selected trip book and related resources

    • Additional materials to help you feel confident and prepared

    At this time, we’ll also collect your emergency contact details, travel insurance information, and require signed release forms to ensure your safety and the smooth coordination of our journey together.

  • Fly into Aeropuerto Internacional Comandante Armando Tola de El Calafate (FTE) in Argentina and meet our group at the airport. Together, we will transfer to our first accommodation in El Chalten.

    The best flights into El Calafate come from Buenos Aires, Argentina. We recommend flying into Buenos Aires, spending the night, then catching a morning flight to El Calafate from there.

    For departure, we stay near the airport (FTE) the night prior to departure, so you are free to plan your flight when it works best for you.

  • Please check your passport well in advance of your departure date to make sure that it is valid.

    There are no visa requirements for American citizens to travel to Argentina; all that's needed to enter is a valid passport and a plane ticket.

    Non-US citizens need a passport that is valid for at least six months from the date of entry into Argentina to enter the country. The passport must also have at least two blank pages. In addition to a valid passport, non-US citizens may need to provide other documents to enter Argentina. Please confirm requirements for your home country.

  • We curate our gatherings to support deep connection, clarity, and authentic joy within our sisterhood. In service of this, alcohol is not part of our shared group experiences. Guests are always free to make personal choices outside of scheduled activities.
