Terry Ambugo

Trip Host - Kenya

My name is Terry (Teresa) Jill Asande Ambugo. I was born in Nairobi, Kenya, and have lived both in the city and in my village in Migori County. I am of the Luo tribe and embrace many of the traditions and customs of my community. I speak Luo, Swahili, and English.

My husband, Tom, and I live in the United States, where we are raising our two beautiful daughters and striving to give them the greatest opportunities life has to offer. But, a part of my heart will always be in Kenya, especially in my village of Ngochoni and at the Petals of Africa School, which I helped start 26 years ago.

Recently, I had the joy of helping plan and host a US teen servant leadership abroad program to support the Petals of Africa School. This opportunity with Honest Heart Journeys to nurture cultural understanding continues to feed my soul.

Those who know me often describe me as a woman of grace and wisdom. I’ve been told there’s a soulful presence that people feel instantly — “a kind of regal quality that lives alongside my warm smile and thoughtful insight”.

For the past 22 years, I’ve worked as a Christian Science Nurse, offering expectant healing care to people of all ages. I love good food, music and dancing, the ocean, and being in nature.

I can hardly wait to share the magic of my home country with you!
